little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter

standing out?
Some people say that following the crowd, or going mainstream is a totally cliche thing. And they actually look down on you for it!

They go on and on about being different, you know? Making your own choice and not blindly agreeing to something everyone seems to be into.

The most common category to be different in is music. Some people say, "Why listen to the radio? It's so mainstream, ugh I hate it! Listen to some indie band lah, they're so much better than those factory-line pop singers."

And that's still alright, I guess.

But then they go on to insult the aforementioned pop singer/band and etc.

And that kind of makes me think, what gives you the right?

Maybe I don't care that they've been to rehab and jail before! Maybe I just like thaaat song!

Being a popstar doesn't automatically make you screwed up! Look at Britney Mandy Moore! And being indie doesn't make you better than a mainstream artist.

So what makes you think listening to indie music means you are a more hip person?

But more importantly, what makes you think that it gives you the right to judge someone based on what they listen to?

People, the point is, choosing the mainstream isn't a lower class choice. Just as how choosing differently doesn't make you much better!

This goes way further than musical choices, but also on life choices. In the end of it all, whatever a person chooses IS still an individual choice! Be it the road less travelled or the highway (yah I know, lame).

So don't think that you're much better than someone just because YOU decide not to follow the trends, and be 'different' in any way.

If you're doing it just to stand out and to be unique, I say, what's the point if you're not happy?

Even if you argue that indeed you ARE happy and feel all dignified to be one of the few to go down that road, to me, it doesn't make someone far more superior than others.

But then again, it's just my opinion, and it doesn't matter much in the end, does it?
